Dog Day uses the Harold structure as a basic jumping off point for freform. Most of our performances are on Dartmouth's campus for the general student population, but we also perform for the local community and have performed in the Del Close Marathon the last two years. Some of the members of the group have taken classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater, and some have participated in workshops at the Magnet Theater in New York City. Some of our alumni include Mindy Kahling (The Office) and Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live). This past year we developed a new style that we are very proud of, that we have appropriately named "When Harry met Sally." Inspired initially by a word from the audience, the freeform begins with an improvised "interview" between two dog day members, much the ones in "When Harry met Sally" when older couples recount their love stories. Our interviews are not always love stories, but they are structured similarly to those scenes in the film. After the short interview, we begin our long form with scenes completely unrelated but inspired by the subject matter of the interview. Then it's off to Free Form Land where we roam endlessly! This form that has ranged anywhere from 20-40 minutes has been received really nicely by our audiences and we believe that it is a unique way to approach long form. 	"extra_info" => "The Dog Day Players is Dartmouth's oldest long form improvisational troupe. Dog Day uses the Harold structure as a basic jumping off point for freform. Most of our performances are on Dartmouth's campus for the general student population, but we also perform for the local community and have performed in the Del Close Marathon the last two years.

Some of the members of the group have taken classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade  theater, and some have participated in workshops at the Magnet Theater in New York City. Some of our alumni include Mindy Kahling (The Office) and Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live).

This past year we developed a new style that we are very proud of, that we have  appropriately named "When Harry met Sally." Inspired initially by a word from the audience, the freeform begins with an improvised "interview" between two dog day members, much the ones in "When Harry met Sally" when older couples recount their love stories. Our interviews are not always love stories, but they are structured similarly to those scenes in the film.

After the short interview, we begin our long form with scenes completely unrelated but inspired by the subject matter of the interview. Then it's off to Free Form Land where we roam endlessly!

This form that has ranged anywhere from 20-40 minutes has been received really nicely by our audiences and we believe that it is a unique way to approach long form.
