Named Rhode Island’s Best Comedy Troupe by RI Monthly magazine, Unexpected Company has been continuously delighting and entertaining audiences since their inception in March of 2003. UC is Rhode Island’s most critically acclaimed and well-traveled improvisational comedy troupe, and the only group in the area strictly dedicated to long form improvisation. Described as ‘Pure Improv’ and ‘Wildly Popular,’ UC has introduced thousands to a form of comedy rarely seen in New England. Based out of Warwick, Rhode Island, Unexpected Company performs a ‘free-wheeling, yet contained’ improv show inspired by truthful monologues based on an audience suggestion. Their super-energized and fast-paced comedy sets explore the depth, meaning, themes, and unique nuances of these monologues while still managing to show their ‘ludicrous brilliance.’ “Each member has their own unique comedic style that brilliantly blends with each other’s to create a night of non-stop entertainment and fun.” – Motif Magazine Besides their weekly shows in Rhode Island, UC has performed all over the country at nationally recognized improv comedy festivals, as well as internationally in Canada and Scotland; UC was invited to perform overseas at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for a successful two- week engagement in 2005. Unexpected Company has also performed multiple times at the Del Close Marathon (held at the prestigious Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City), the Miami Improv Festival, Philadelphia Improv Festival, and Dirty South Improv Festival. Other appearances include the Toronto International Improv Festival, Out of Bounds Improv Festival, RI Comedy Festival, RI College Comedy Festival and Providence’s own New Year’s celebration “Bright Night.” They also continue to co-host the successful and constantly growing Providence Improv Festival in their home state for 5 years running. Called ‘a breath of fresh air’ by the Providence Phoenix, this experienced company continues to dazzle and delight audiences nation-wide with their ‘hilariously unique’ style and approach.
